We all love the thought of going on a vacation. Who doesn’t? But as exciting, it seems, packaging the right and essential stuff is always a challenge. Because no matter how much less we try to pack, at the end of the day, we always tend to overpack.

Make your travel easier with our how to travel light and in the right way guide.

In this article, we will highlight all the tips essential to make your vacation, travel or journey- a lightweight, light-hearted and exciting one!

But before we roll the suitcase, let’s have a look at some of the advantages of making most of the journey by packing light.

Some advantages of packing light for travelling

Packing light doesn’t only give the benefit of having hassle-free travel, it also comes with lots of advantages that we overlook.

  • Enjoy the public transport if you travel with light baggage. Instead of carrying around 4 huge jumbo bags, get all your essentials in one bag and explore the place freely.
  • With the minimal packing, you are free from any additional charges airlines charge for extra luggage weight.
  • As you learn to travel light, there are fewer chances of losing your stuff.
  • Packing light makes your journey hassle-free, with no tension of handling all the heavy bags. Instead, tour the place with confidence as you carry the least of the weight!
  • Do not spoil your journey by overpacking, what could be worse than not being able to enjoy the trip you planned in the first place?

Lastly, I can go on the whole day about the advantages you have by packing light. But for now, let us show you the tips and tricks to help you travel light. Let’s get going……..

Tips and tricks to pack light

  1. Start with a smaller and lightweight suitcase

Start with taking out a smaller suitcase for your travel. Do not get that big bad out of the cupboard. Be aware of this red flag!

No matter the size of the bag, you will just fill it up. So go for a smaller one to reduce packing up “things I may need, but aren’t necessary”.

2. Pack must-haves only

Unless you are going for a trip in the desert or the Amazon rainforest, every place around the world offers everything you may need. My point being, that instead of carrying around stuff you ‘might need’, pack the things that you sincerely need.

Packing 3 t-shirts and 3 pairs of trousers for a one week trip are essential whereas stuffing the suitcase with a dozen t-shirts and pants would be an outright pain to carry.

3. Get some packing cubes

Packing cubes are one of the most effective tips for packing. Using such cubes to pack your stuff will not only keep the things organised but will also dictate how much you should pack.

Generally, such packing cubes come in a pack of 4, meaning- you should be able to pack up your luggage within these four compartments.

4. No more than 3 shoe rule

Remember the rule-no more than 3 shoes in your luggage. You heard it right! Shoes take up most of the space and they increase the weight a lot. Hence keep in mind the location of your travel and choose the type of footwear you might need there.

Usually, a pair of slippers, sandals, and shoes should be more than enough to help you hop around the destination happily and comfortably.

5. Heavy clothing- don’t pack them, wear them

This is one of the most underrated packing tips I have seen among people. Packing up heavy jackets and cardigans takes up unnecessary space in your bag. Rather than packing it, wear it instead. You might sweat a bit initially, but once you are in the airport, you’ll be glad to have a jacket to ward off the cold.

6. Cut down on cosmetics and accessories

We all love to take beautiful photos for Instagram, right? And for that, we might need to end up taking the whole box of makeup and cosmetics. And that will cost you a lot of space in your suitcase.

So, instead, take only the things necessary. It’s okay to not look the best at all times. Being natural is the charm!

7. Be mentally prepared for less

Habituated to every luxury at the snap of your fingers? This might become a problem when you travel light. Prepare up your mind, ditch those luxury products and bags behind to make the most out of your journey.

Understand and work with the minimum objects you have at hand with you. Train your mind to be comfortable even when you lack some things on a trip.

8. Leave the toiletries behind

Another essential tip to keep in mind before packing your suitcase, leave the toiletries behind. Toiletries are essential, no doubt, but there is no need to carry everything with you.

Rather, get travel-size toiletries or buy once you reach the place and avoid overpacking essential yet easily available things.
